Find out: how much for a cup of tea?

Ask people and find out the cost of a cup of tea.

At a tea stall: Rs 10.

At a hotel: Rs 50

If a person who runs a tea stall earns Rs 30 a day, how much he will earn in 10 days?

Earning in 1 day – Rs 30

Earning in 10 days = 30 X 10

                              = 300

And in a month?

Earning in 1 day – Rs 30

Number of days in a month = 30

Earning in a month = 30 X 30

                              = 900

How did you get the answer? Discuss

We get the answer by multiplying earning of a day by total number of days.

Find out: what is a loan?

Have you ever heard of someone taking a loan? For what?

Yes, I had heard of a person taking a loan. He took the loan for the repair of his shop.

How much loan was taken?

He took the loan of Rs 25000

How much money was paid back?

He paid Rs 30000 after one year.

Hariya: I have taken a loan of Rs 300 from a bank for six months. I will pay Rs 51 every month to the bank.

Babu: But I have taken a loan of RS 300 from Chunnilal. After six months, I will pay back Rs 360.

Who has to pay back more – Hariya or Babu?

Hariya: loan = Rs 300

Amount to be paid every month = Rs 51

Number of months = 6

Total money paid back = 51 X 6

                                    = Rs 306

Babu has paid Rs 360.

Therefore, babu has to pay back more.

I have 9 rickshaws of my own. I give the rickshaws on rent, each for Rs 20 a day. On Sundays, I do not take any money for them.

How much does Kiran earn from 9 rickshaws in a day?

For 1 rickshaw she gets Rs 20 per day.

So for 9 rickshaws, she will earn Rs 180.

How did you do it?

Rent for 1 rickshaw per a day = Rs 20

Number of rickshaw = 9

Rent earned from 9 rickshaws = 20 X 9

                                               = 180.

Page 63

In a week how much does Kiran earn from one rickshaw?

There are 7 days in a week but she did not charge rent on Sundays.

Therefore, number of days = 6

Kiran earns Rs 20 in one day.

Money earned by Kiran in one week = 6 X 20

                                                       = Rs 120.

Do it mentally and write the answers.

2 X 6 = 12                      4 X 80 = 320

20 X 6 = 120                  4 X 81 = 324

2 X 60 = 120                  9 X 25 = 125

3 X 42 = 126                 31 X 9 = 279
